Attached below is the Coach Recruitment, Development & Retention - Executive Guide & Planning Template, a resource designed to help associations build a consistent and sustainable approach to coach recruitment, onboarding, development, mentorship, evaluation, recognition, and retention.
The document is provided in Word format and without Hockey Alberta logos so associations can make it their own. It is intended as a customizable working template — associations can use some, or all, of the content to develop plans and processes that fit their own structure, needs, and coaching environment.
This is not intended to be a one-size-fits-all document. It is a starting point to help associations build or strengthen their own coaching systems.
The resource will continue to be updated as we learn more and identify additional opportunities to support associations. Updated versions will be available to access and download from the Hockey Alberta website at some point in the future.
Attached below is the Coach and Team Official Qualification Visual Checklist, which provides a quick reference for identifying the qualifications required for coaches and team officials based on stream, category, age, and level.
Please ensure you review both the Required Qualifications column and the Safety / The Shift Forward - Coach column when using the checklist.
The updated Coach Qualifications information is also available on the Hockey Alberta website, where the qualifications matrix can be downloaded in PDF format for easy reference.

The online Hockey Canada courses and the majority of Hockey Alberta coaching clinics are now open for registration through the Hockey Canada Registry - Clinic Registration site.
A small number of our hub centres are still finalizing their clinic dates and locations. These clinics will be added to the registration system as soon as those details are confirmed.
As a reminder, coaches should make sure they are searching for Hockey Alberta clinics on the HCR - Clinic Registration site. The site may sometimes default to “No Branch Selected” or “BC Hockey” in the search bar at the top of the page. The link below will take you directly to the Hockey Alberta clinic registration page.
